Rapid Rooms The miniHome Rapid Room is designed as an addition to any home, for both elderly relatives and tenants, providing accessible, comfortable spaces on time and on budget. Its remarkable combination of energy efficient systems and beautiful finishes, usually associated with luxury apartments, results in a home that sings the virtues of simplicity and conservation. The Rapid Room provides additional, accessible living space to any existing home. Designed in Canada and built in the UK for year round living, the Rapid Room’s robust and durable construction is super-insulated (0.023W/mK), making it quick and easy to heat and cool. Optimal placement of large, operable windows maximize natural light and fresh air and contribute to the passive solar gains in the heating season. The Rapid Room readily connects to your existing services - or it can be equipped with its own gas-fired boiler and radiant space heating system, making the Rapid Room comfortable for the young and old - year round. The new Rapid Room is part of the next generation of miniHomes, featuring simplified systems, more robust hardware and appointments, and a thoroughly redefined exterior and interior delivers on looks and lets the Rapid Room sit amazingly well on any site. In crafting the Rapid Room, BFTF and SDS has selected healthy and sustainable materials, systems and finishes that provide the best value, while still incorporating the high-end and green features that have come to define the miniHome as the ecological and off-grid home of the 21st century. The Rapid Room has numerous environmental advantages over conventional construction. Factory built housing uses less resources and energy to build, and its precise, thermally efficient and energy-tight construction requires much less energy to operate and maintain. The Rapid Room’s systems use less water, fuel and materials, and 1/30th the electrical energy when compared with a conventional home - making it is a true BRE addition. We have opted for durable materials that do not require maintenance or refinishing, thus lowering life-cycle costs and eliminating air pollution. What we have not sacrificed is style, amenity, convenience or comfort! This feat of spatial organization is accomplished by the ingenious location of storage and systems in every nook and cranny, generous work-surfaces, wide circulation space, long interior views and high ceilings. Low-e coatings, ventilated exterior cladding, and 3 meter high volumes encourage passive airflow and maximize cooling and natural ventilation in the Summer. Additional features, such as multi-tasking furniture and cabinets, intelligent controls, silent appliances, warm-white LED lighting, centralized rainwater collection, and optional solar, wind and composting solutions take the RadidRoom ‘all the way’.
